Marathon Lockout
Since late January 2021, 200 members of Teamsters Local 120 at Marathon Oil in St. Paul Park have been locked out of their jobs by a company bent on breaking their union.
Both as Teamsters and as members of the community, Local 638 supports our brothers and sisters in their efforts to maintain good union jobs and safe conditions at this refinery. Local 638 agents and organizer at the picket line
How can I help?Because this is a lockout and not a strike (which could change), the workers are collecting unemployment as well as strike benefits, so donations are not currently being solicited. Right now the best thing any member can do is to join them on the strike line. The line is up 24/7, so whenever you might have some time to walk the picket line we encourage all members to check in at the American Legion (during business hours) or at the next door Frankie's Bar and ask whoever is available for directions to the line where you can be the most help. Map is below.

Marathon workers picket in front of the refinery
What exactly is going on?Teamsters Local 120's contract with Marathon Petroleum ended December 31st 2020. Talks with Marathon broke down when Marathon refused to reconsider their demands to shrink the union workforce, including in key safety positions and replace them with subcontractors. Union workers walked out for a one day strike to bring attention to the company's unfair treatment, and were informed the next day when they attempted to return that they would not be allowed to work. They have been refused entry ever since.
