This summer, Minnesota and North Dakota have seen dangerous temperatures for those working both inside and outside jobs at UPS. At the 2023 national negotiations, we locked in new commitments from the company that would safeguard you against scorching temperatures.
Some of the most basic protections are that management must provide adequate water, ice, and building fans. If your building is out of compliance, alert your Steward or Business Agent. Article 18 of the contract protects your right to rest in a cool zone when you're experiencing symptoms of heat illness. This is in addition to regular meal and break periods. Notify management and your shop steward if you are experiencing symptoms of heat illness and that you are taking a cool down break as the contract allows.
